Man convicted of raping grand-daughter to be sentenced tomorrow

A 66-year-old man convicted of raping his eight year-old granddaughter will be sentenced by the Suva High Court tomorrow.

It was established in Court that the attack took place in Navua last year.

The man was found guilty of rape by Judge Justice Vincent Perera.

During his sentencing mitigation today the man’s lawyer asked for a minimum prison term for his client.

The defence lawyer informed the court that his wife is 71 years old and is sickly and there is no one to look after her.

The prosecution informed the court that the age gap between the accused and the victim is 58 years.

The accused will be sentenced tomorrow morning.
