A man is in custody for allegedly raping a twelve-year-old student yesterday afternoon.

It is alleged the suspect had offered the girl a ride and took her to the Lakena Irrigation Road in Nausori where he allegedly raped her.

Police say the girl managed to fight off her attacker and freed herself and it is alleged the suspect then tried to run the victim over with his car.

Late yesterday the suspect is again alleged to have tried to lure another girl in a similar way however she managed to fight him off.

The police were then given a clear description of the vehicle and the suspect was arrested last night near Naduruloulou in Kasavu in Naitasiri.

He is currently in custody at the Nausori Police Station.
