Man admits to committing corruption offences

A man charged with offences regarding the misuse of funds under the Help for Homes initiative pleaded guilty yesterday in the Suva Magistrates court.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption charged Atunaisa Ravatu in February 2018 with a count of General Dishonesty – causing a loss and two counts of general dishonesty – obtaining a gain.

In court yesterday, Ravatu admitted to dishonestly causing a loss to the government by misappropriating MPAISA cards which belonged to villagers of Vuna District in Taveuni amounting to $22,231.22 in 2016.

He also admitted to obtaining $1,600 in Suva and $2,000 in Sigatoka from the cash back promotion given by Vinod Patel Company Limited.

The matter was adjourned to 1 May 2019 for mention to check on the defence’s position on the facts.
