Major water cut in the West

The whole of Nadi and most of Lautoka will be without water from Friday evening affecting more than 161,000 people.

Water Authority of Fiji Chief Executive Opetaia Ravai confirms the shutdown will begin 10pm Friday and last until 10pm Sunday.

Ravai says this is to allow for major repairs to the Nagado and Vaturu pipelines.

“Now these works are necessary to improve the hydraulics of the system and also prepare our system to cater for the demand that we anticipate in the coming years. These upgrades will continue and we need to do these works and temporarily supply will be disrupted.”

Residents are advised to store water to last them the entire weekend and not rely on water trucks which will be running throughout the disruption period.

All major hotels and resorts in the West have also been informed of the disruption as well.

The only unaffected areas in Lautoka are Lautoka City, Lautoka hospital, Waiyavi Stage 5, MT Khan Road, Mehndi Place, Vitogo Paipai, Naikabula, Tomuka, Matawalu, Johnson Road, Drasa Dam Road, Anjan Road, Qalitu, Vitogo Village, Naviyago village and Vunato.
