RFMF’s 3FIR Commander Lt. Col Ben Naliva has confirmed that 42 military officers are in Koro Island.

The officers left this morning with other government officials taking with them rations, relief supplies and machineries.

Lt. Col Naliva says the machinery that has been sent to the island was provided by the Fiji Roads Authority.

He says it will be used to clear up the lines of communication on the island.

“There’s been some machinery for clearing roads and to fix the roads on the island of Koro that’s been provided by the FRA. That was loaded into the budge last night to accompany our platoon because what we’ve assessed at the moment is to open the roads to enable the villages to get access to the medical team that’s traveling across with our personnel.”

A team of 42 officers will leave for Ovalau and Moturiki this afternoon while 15 has been deployed to Batiki and Nairai.
