Lutukina District School to be relocated

The Ministry of Education is looking at relocating Lutukina District School in Macuata.

Education Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy visited the school yesterday to discuss with the school head and the school management the options of relocating the school to a safer environment.

The banks of the river running beside the school, is slowly eroding away, posing a great threat to the school.

During the discussion, Dr Reddy assured the school committee and the school head that the Ministry will prioritize the relocation in early 2016 by providing $120,000.

Dr Reddy says the funds should be given to the school by March to allow for the relocation to happen.

Along with the relocation, the Ministry will be building five classrooms, 1 staff room and an ablution block to accommodate the 85 students and the teachers in their teaching and learning process.
