The Land Transport Authority is warning Fijians to be aware of impersonators claiming to be LTA officials.

In a statement, LTA says some impersonators fraudulently extort money from individuals for the issuance of counterfeit provisional approval letters.

Chief Executive Samuel Simpson says this has become a major concern for the authority.

Simpson says the issuance of provisional approvement letters are issued only on the basis of a successful PSV permit being lodged and accepted by the Authority.

He says all PSV related transactions are only carried out at LTA Branches in Valelevu, Labasa, and Lautoka.

Simpson says all LTA staff carry official identity cards when on duty.

The authority is urging Fijians to check the identity of the person they are dealing with before making any payments.
