The Land Transport Authority will be sending out enforcement officers in unmarked vehicles to monitor Urban Clearways.
The LTA has released a statement saying it supports the move by the Fiji Roads Authority and will be patrolling the designated areas to ensure that regulations are being complied with.
It says motorists should look out for new signage and road markings that will begin appearing in the next few days delineating the roads covered by the Clearway Regulations.
The Authority adds that drivers cannot stop, park or wait when the Clearway is in operation. This includes taxis picking up or setting down passengers.
The picking up or setting down of passengers will have to be undertaken on side roads.
Offenders will be issued Traffic Infringement Notices, vehicles obstructing the Clearways will be impounded and drivers or owners will be liable for the costs.
The LTA is advising motorists not to park, stop or wait in the Urban Clearway designated areas during the hours/days of operation.
It’s also calling on people to follow the road signs in parts of Suva where one-way networks have been introduced.
