The Land Transport Authority will begin issuing color coded number plates with zone prefixes for taxis today.
Board Chair Vijay Maharaj says they will begin issuing the special number plates for taxi operators in Lautoka and Nadi.
He says the new permits will be issued upon the renewal of vehicle registration.
However, the number plates are free of charge for the taxi operators.
Maharaj says the zone number plate is expected to increase transparency and ease enforcement operations for LTA.
The zonal plates for Western Taxis will be ‘Subtle Sky Blue’, Lime Green’ for Central Eastern Division and ‘Shade of Orange’ for Northern Division Taxis.
The colored plates will enable taxi services to be better managed and meet the demand present in each of the 34 zones.
It will also help improve and modernize services within Fiji’s taxi industry.
