The Land Transport Authority and police have launched a joint operation to seize vehicles with illegal modifications.

LTA Chief Executive Samuel Simpson says the authorities will impound vehicles with illegal window tint, illegal or loud exhausts, extra lights and any other modifications which were not installed by the manufacturer.

Simpson adds that a number of vehicles were impounded yesterday and the owners have been issued with defect notices.

They have also been charged towing fees and vehicle inspection fees before release.

He adds any modifications must have prior approval from the LTA.

FBC News understands the operation is targeting known locations where vehicle owners are often seen, including Queen Elizabeth Drive in Suva, the waterfront in Lautoka, Wailevu Road near Waiqele Airport in Labasa, Vunika road and Savusavu town.
