The Land Transport Authority has issued 3,260 seat belt traffic infringement notices from January to June this year.
This comes as the authority launched a nationwide seat belt awareness campaign, educating the public on the importance of fastening their seat belts while travelling in vehicles.
LTA Chief Executive, Samuel Simpson is urging drivers and passengers to wear seat belts at all times – adding it’s one of the safety provisions in cars.
Simpson says it’s unfortunate that many Fijians have been booked for not wearing seat belts.
He says it’s the duty of drivers to remind their passengers to fasten-up their seat belts upon boarding the vehicle.
The awareness is one of the major initiatives for LTA this month and their officers will be on the road to visually inspect vehicles.
Anyone found not wearing a seat belt will be given infringement notices.
