The Land Transport Authority has started an investigation into the false information provided by some taxi operators to get the provisional permits which was given out in Lautoka last weekend.

LTA Board Chair Vijay Maharaj says the recipients who provided false information need to return their permits before the 21st of this month.

He says some taxi operators lied about their combined household income while some lied that they didn’t have a taxi permit.

“When people say that their household income is less than $20,000, they may be employed somewhere else and earning more than that. That is one information but being true and the other one is one of the requirements of the criteria is you must not own a taxi permit before and some people have told us that people have more than one permit.”

He says people need to come out and inform the authority about their wrongdoing before the amnesty ends or face the consequences.
