A few cases concerning driving schools and examiners accepting bribes from student drivers are currently being investigated by the Land Transport Authority.

Board Chair, Vijay Maharaj says these corrupt practices, which had died down, have re-surfaced.

This time the spotlight is on some driving school instructors and LTA examiners.

“Some of which at the moment are being investigated internally include – a driving person going for a driving test has been asked to pay a certain amount of money and their license is guaranteed. There are two or three cases that have come to us and we’re currently investigating.”

Maharaj says the cases that are under investigation are from the West and the central division.

“Either you’re a driving examiner or a driving instructor from a driving school or you’re a person intending to take a driving license or lessons please be aware there’s a crime to give money and when they do ask for money it’s your duty to actually report that matter either to FICAC, LTA or the Police.”

Meanwhile, President of Fiji Driving School Association, Dev Narayan is calling on instructors to follow the laws and report on such acts as accepting bribe is a criminal offence.
