The Land Transport Authority is working closely with the Ministry of Women Children and Poverty Alleviation to monitor the use of the free bus fare scheme.
This follows as the ministry received reports of people abusing the initiative by using cards of recipients.
LTA Board Chair, Vijay Maharaj says they have recruited more people to ensure that the initiative is not abused.
“LTA continues to monitor all these in fact e-ticketing process generally and anywhere there is an abuse, people trying to abuse e-ticketing system, then obviously they will be taken to task. Our enforcement officers are always there”
Maharaj says over a hundred LTA officers were recruited, trained and were sent to different parts of Fiji to ensure drivers and recipients adhere to the law.
The Ministry has 77,000 recipients under the free bus fare scheme.
