The Municipal Council Election will takes place once the Local Government Act is reviewed.
This has been confirmed by the Local Government Minister, Praveen Kumar.
Kumar says the Act is outdated and once reviewed, an election will take place.
He says there will be a lot of new provisions in the Act.
“We cannot move, we cannot have developments within municipal councils with the legislation that is in place. Its good government is funding municipal, council’s developments but having the review that will give more power to municipal councils to seek partnerships with corporate companies in terms of developments within their towns and cities.”
The Minister has also confirmed the Local Government Committee has been tasked to move around and carry out public consultations before the Review committee is appointed by the end of this month.
