A major review exercise of the Local Government Act is currently being carried out by the Local government committee.
This was confirmed by local government Minister Parveen Kumar in Sigatoka yesterday.
He says a report is expected to be submitted to his office before September this year.
“After due consideration of the report by the Local Government’s office, the Minister will submit the report to the cabinet and seek endorsement of the report and to approve a way forward.”
Kumar has advised the public that the review process is being carried out to see town and city councils are strengthened to provide good service delivery at all times.
The minister says a lot has been achieved by the municipal councils over the last ten years to strengthen good governance scheme at municipal councils.
