Local garment industry expected to be revived

November 30, 2014 6:02 pm

Fijian businessman and the brains behind the manufacture of Australian National Rugby League jerseys is adamant Fiji will revive its garment industry.

Director of the $12m export company-Mark One Apparell Mark Halabe says they started as a shirt manufacturer back in 1989.

Due to the changing markets and increase in demand, it has shifted its focus to fashion, corporate wear and the famous sport clothing.

Halabe is encouraging all garment business entrepreneurs to put their money into this soon-to-be revived industry.

“I’m very optimistic about the future of Fiji. We have a pragmatic no nonsense government that understands the need for business success, exports and are prepared to assist us or as the PM said he’s job is to get the policies right and get out of the way and that’s what we know is possible for us to do.”

Mark One Apparel is the same factory that manufacturers the Marvel Superhero Australian Football League and the National Rugby League jerseys in Australia.

It employs more than 500 Fijians and exports to Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
