Local clergyman denounces Australia’s coal production

Reverend James Bhagwan – a climate advocate made the incendiary remarks at the COP25 climate conference in Madrid, Spain, during a panel discussion on climate change.

The General Secretary for the Pacific Conference of Churches has told Scott Morrison that the coal industry is killing the Pacific region.

Reverend Bhagwan said each lump of coal represents a nail in our coffins.

The reverend told the audience that while Pacific nations are facing obliteration, inviting people over as fruit pickers is not a sign of a loving neighbour.

His sentiments were echoed by other panelists, including Nobel Peace Prize nominee Anote Tong, former Tuvalu Prime Minister Enele Sopoaga and Marshall Islands Climate Envoy, Kathy Jetnil Kijiner.
