Local charged for $100m drug shipment

A 36 year old businessman will be produced in court today in relation to the seizure of drugs worth more than $FJD100 million.

The drugs were discovered in a container which was offloaded at the Suva Wharf, with the businessman named as the local receiver of the amphetamines.

He is charged with Unlawful Importation of Illicit Drugs and will be brought to the Suva Magistrates Court today.

The arrest was made possible through a joint operation involving the police, the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority, New Zealand police and the Australian Federal Police.
