A live test of all tsunami sirens will be conducted next Tuesday.
This test is part of the government’s commitment towards improving the siren’s state of readiness for any tsunami event and to ensure the sirens are in good condition.
The sirens are currently installed at the Water Authority’s Kinoya sewerage plant, FINTEL and RFMF Officers training school in Vatuwaqa, My Suva Park, Government training centre in Nasese, USP main campus, USP Statham, iTaukei Trust Fund Board, Civic car park rooftop, Government shipping services in Walu Bay and in Lami town.
The National Disaster Management Office is advising the public that evacuation will not be required.
However, communities and businesses living along the Suva peninsula and foreshore are urged to use this exercise to identify and test their evacuation procedures in terms of their designated safe route and assembly areas.
