Lightening causes electricity disruption

February 1, 2016 6:42 pm

A lightning strike in Nakorosule in the interior of Viti Levu caused a power disruption to the FEA power system in Viti Levu at 3:52pm yesterday afternoon.

FEA chief executive Hasmukh Patel says this lightning strike tripped/de-energized our 132,000 volts transmission line that evacuates power supply from Wailoa to Cunningham in Suva, causing a Viti Levu blackout.

Whilst a team was trying to identify the cause of the outage, our other teams were quick in restoring power using the backup diesel generators around Viti Levu.
