The lift of taxi permit freeze will help reduce illegal vehicles doing business on our roads.
Land Transport Authority Board Chair, Vijay Maharaj says this has been an issue for most taxi drivers.
”The reason why there are so many illegal taxis on our roads applying for passengers is because there is a demand. I am not sure there is necessarily so but maybe they provide much better vehicles, they are there 24 hours maybe that could have been the reason and we are going to identify those areas. Areas where there are a lot of demands, a lot of illegal vehicles, when we are actually considering the application, we will have this in mind.”
Maharaj says they are working closely with relevant stake holders as they continue with the logistics on the taxi permit application forms.
He adds they are working to get applications from all divisions within the next five months.
