Lifeline Fiji, the suicide prevention helpline continues to ensure their crisis line 132 454 is managed 24/7 with efficient and effective counselors.

Officer in Charge, Jeremiah Merekula says in addition to ensuring the necessary service is up and running with financial contributions from the community, counselors also maintain a significant training program.

“Lifeline Fiji is a 24 hour service. We have seven staff and currently we have some USP students who have been on attachment with use, so we have about six, so currently we have about 13 altogether staffs that are here. So all Crisis Support Staff have to go through crisis helpline training. This training is done by Lifeline Australia so every year, Lifeline Australia comes and do two trainings for refresher and every Support Officers have to go through this training in order to be a Support Officer on the line.”

Meanwhile, with the organization run on community contributions, fundraising is a constant requirement.

Last week in partnership with Digicel Fiji, Lifeline Fiji launched their text to donate platform where customers of the network can donate a dollar to help keep their lines open.

This can be done by texting Lifeline to 176.
