57-year-old Mohammed Yasin who was convicted of one count of murder has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Suva High Court this morning.

Yasin has to serve 18 years in jail before a presidential pardon may be considered.

He murdered his wife Maimun Nisha in Wailailai Ba three years ago.

The court was told that after twenty seven years of marriage the couple’s relationship went through crisis in 2014.

The couple got separated as Nisha allegedly started having an affair.

On 16th November 2014 Nisha went to visit Yasin’s mother in Ba where she was stabbed by Yasin with a kitchen knife.

Judge Justice Temo said giving this harsh sentence to Yasin will deter the would-be offenders.
