A 36 year old man of Naboutolu village, Rakiraki, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Lautoka High Court this afternoon.

Maloni Moceyawa was convicted of one count of murder and one count of attempted murder when he appeared before Justice Aruna Aluthge.

Moceyawa attacked and killed, Simran Singh, a high school student as she got off a bus after school in Naria Rakiraki.

He also attacked the victim’s father, Jainendra Singh, injuring him with a cane knife in September 2015.

Justice Aluthge sentenced Moceyawa to life imprisonment with a non-parole period of 20 years.
