Liaison Officers earmarked for seasonal workers program

September 25, 2018 7:20 pm

The Ministry of Employment will soon have a Liaison Officer both in Australia and in New Zealand.

Minister Jone Usamate says this will be needed under the seasonal work scheme and programme to establish productive inter-stakeholder’s relationships with Fiji.

He says this will secure more employment opportunities for Fijians and at the same time market Fiji’s workforce overseas as a source of reliable seasonal labour.

Usamate made the revelations while receiving a group of returning seasonal workers from Tavia village of the Tikina Ovalau.

The returning seasonal workers praised their employer Bostok in the North Island and Vinepower for the employment opportunity under the Recognized Seasonal Employer Work Scheme in New Zealand.

This was brought to light by returning worker team leader for the Ovalau team Sitiveni Waqawai.

Waqa highlighted that they were treated so well by the employers during their 7 months stay in New Zealand.

Usamate welcomed the positive feedback received and thanked the group for their commitment and dedication in building and maintaining good relationships with the employer and their co-workers.
