Let us not use tradition to drink yaqona in Methodist Church premises.

This was the statement made by Church President Rev.Dr Epineri Vakadewavosa while opening the Annual Methodist Church conference at the Centenary Church in Suva this morning.

Rev Dr. Vakadewavosa says the excessive consumption of yaqona in Methodist Church premises continues to be an issue for the Church.

Rev.Dr Vakadewavosa says yaqona is still being consumed in Church Minister quarters and Church Halls despite the agreement made that yaqona consumption in both venues should end at 10 pm.

He adds some church members are also drinking yaqona on Sundays which is not allowed.

“I am glad that in many divisions, yaqona consumption in Church minister’s residence is not allowed. In 2014 we had agreed that on Sundays there is to be no yaqona consumption until the evening service is done. Let us keep the Sunday holy and let’s refrain from abusing the consumption of yaqona and lest not use tradition as an excuse.”

Rev Dr. Vakadewavosa says some members of the church continue to breach the church law and this is moving them back.

Meanwhile, the Annual Methodist Church Conference is currently underway.
