Diabetes Fiji is preparing a paper to submit to the Ministry of Health to find a way to make testing strips for Diabetes more affordable.

Diabetes Fiji chairman Dr Wahid Khan says they are also putting together a budgetary estimation to be given to the Ministry of Finance to see how it can be done.

“There are several ideas on this thing either it is subsidized in a manner by the government for diabetics or look at the taxation part of it. There is not duty free on medicine but why not remove the VAT.”

Dr Wahid added that this move would greatly benefit those suffering with diabetes and will help others to continue to monitor their sugar levels.

Last month Health Minister Jone Usamate reiterated in Parliament the need to help lessen cost for these testing strips for sugar testing.
