One of the country’s longest serving criminal high court judge says preparation is the most important tool for lawyers when battling in the courtroom.
Justice Salesi Temo says lawyers should prepare well for trials or their lack of preparation can allow a criminal to walk free.
“When I see a lawyer well prepared I am very happy because you’ll make the job easier for me. I won’t make a wrong decision. I’ll be happy to send someone to prison knowing that that lawyer has done a proper job and will assist me in making that decision and its a right decision.”
Justice Temo says there’s no mentors in Fiji to teach lawyers the art of courtroom techniques.
Meanwhile the Fiji Law Society says it will work together with the Fiji Women’s Lawyers Society to have more legal education.
