July 8, 2018 6:31 pm

The Fiji Sugar Corporation says the Lautoka Sugar mill is fully operational now after stoppages caused earlier last week.

FSC Chief Executive, Graham Clark says there were some electrical and mechanical breakdowns but this has all been sorted.

He says the mill uses some very old equipment which caused an electrical outage.

Clarke says the gearbox failure last week extended the stoppage and the site was closed for safety reasons.

He says the mill operations are being consolidated properly.

” We have managed a couple of strategic investments over the last two years to improve performance and FSC remains committed to continuing with this as a long-term investment to replace redundant equipment and technology and to make the mill operate more efficiently for our requirement.”

Clarke says the mill has been stabilized and is now crushing one thousand tonnes per shift.

He says FSC will continue investing in the mill.
