July 25, 2017 5:09 am

The burning Lautoka Rubbish dump in Vunato continues to billow smoke across the city.

Photos taken last night and posted to Facebook show that the fire reignited with the height of the flames clearly visible miles away.

Lautoka City Council Chief Executive, Jone Nakauvadra told FBC News the fire has been contained and is under 24 hour surveillance.

He says the thickness of the rubbish heap has led to this extended burn which does not pose a health risk to residents in the city.

The National Fire Authority is working with the LCC to ensure the fire is controlled and burns out safely.

Nakauvadra adds that the continued smoke and reigniting of the dump fire is expected to take a few days to completely die down.
