The Lautoka Mill has just completed its first week of crushing.

The Fiji Sugar Corporation Chief Executive, Graham Clarke says that to date the mill has averaged 2,000 tonnes of cane per day, having crushed nearly 14,000 tonnes so far.

Clarke says that the daily cane throughout has increased steadily and 3,500 tonnes of cane were crushed on Tuesday.

He says this will increase the target to between 4,000 to 5,000 tonnes of cane per day.

Clarke also says that early yesterday, a cable fault on the cane carrier or shredder was detected.

He says that the mill was stopped to replace the cable and crushing resumed.

The CEO adds that there have been no further issues with the boiler since the feed system was rectified last week and all other equipment are running well.
