Lautoka Mill resumes crushing

July 22, 2016 1:04 am

The Lautoka Sugar Mill has resumed crushing from late yesterday afternoon.

The mill began crushing on Tuesday, but this was halted due to a technical problem.

Fiji Sugar Corporation chief executive, Abdul Khan, told FBC News that due to the lack of hog fuel, the generator turbine failed to provide enough electricity to the factory.

Khan says the baggase was also not enough to supplement the hog fuel when crushing began on Tuesday.

Hog fuel is wood residue and waste product that is processed through a chipper or mill and produces coarse chips and clumps normally used for fuel.

Khan agreed farmers had to wait for long to unload cane in the mill.
