The Lautoka Mill continues to perform well despite facing some teething issues.

Fiji Sugar Corporation CEO Graham Clarke says that the Lautoka Mill crushed a season high of 5,377 tonnes of cane in 24 hours on Sunday.

“The natural expectations is that we would perform better than last year so I’m pleased to see us crushing 15% more than last year to date and that is all we have to show.”

Clarke says this result, increases the average crush at the Lautoka Mill over the last five days of crushing to 4,000 tonnes of cane per day in line with the season to date targets.

Meanwhile, the Cane Planting Grants are expected to be advertised soon to assist farmers with land preparations, excavation and drainage.

Around 15 point four million dollars has been allocated for this under the Sugarcane Development and Farmers assistance program.
