Lautoka mill death a police case

August 12, 2013 7:09 pm

The Fiji Sugar and General Workers Union has lodged a complaint with the Fiji Police Force regarding the death of one of its members at the Lautoka Sugar Mill more than two weeks ago.

The union’s general secretary Felix Anthony says they want a full investigation into the death, which they believe could have been avoided had the FSC followed all safety procedures.

“We believe that the problem existed for a long while in the mill, workers were aware of it, they made FSC management aware of it but no action was taken. We have reported it to the director of criminal investigation for a police investigation into the death.”
