Lautoka lawyer found guilty of professional misconduct

Lautoka Lawyer Aman Ravindra Singh has been found guilty of one count of professional misconduct by the Independent Legal Services Commission.

The Commission heard that as a legal practitioner Singh failed to respond to a complaint lodged by a Shailesh Kumar in October last year as required by the Chief Registrar on two occasions.

According to the Commission, Singh was aware of the allegations against him and he failed to respond to it within the stipulated time.

Singh had pleaded not guilty to one count of professional misconduct on the basis that he had an explanation for not responding.

Singh in his response said that the during that time he did not hold a valid practicing certificate and neither he or his staff were allowed to undertake any legal work.

The Commission has ordered the parties file written submissions on penalty and to set a new date and time for mention before a new commissioner as the current commissioner’s term expired on the 21st January.

The matter will be called again before the Independent Legal Services Commission on 4th February next year.
