Landslide in Qamea causes major damage

Major damage has been reported at Dreketi Village on Qamea island following a massive landslide early this morning.

FBC News understands, the Primary School has been totally damaged.

The Health Centre and the Nursing Station have been displaced and pushed out to sea.

The Community Hall has also suffered severe damage.

Three homes in the village have burnt down in the process of the displacement due to the landslide.

There has been no reports of injuries so far.

Families have been moved to safer grounds by the village headman.

Meanwhile, two homes in Togo Village, also on Qamea Island were displaced due to a landslide this morning.

One adult suffered injuries and has been taken to the Waiyevo Hospital.

At Naivivi Village, the primary school is now open as evacuation centre.

Ten people are currently sheltering there due to flooding.
