Landlord too selective

April 16, 2012 1:10 am

A Fiji-Indian landlord has struck trouble trying to advertise his Auckland rental property.

He wants “European” occupants and has tried to say so in internet advertisements.

He says he saw a TV programme which gave some ethnicities, including Asians or Indians, a bad reputation as tenants.

But the New Zealand internet site “Trade Me” removed the ad because it’s against the Human Rights Act to mention particular race or gender.

The landlord said his family moved to New Zealand in 2001 and the 2 bedroomed apartment is listed at $400 a week.
