The Lami Town Council has collected a little more than half a million dollars in the rates owed to the Council.
Special Administrator, Jasper Singh says $774,000 was to be collected in dues however as of May this year, they have collected close to 65 percent in rates.
Singh says they have their collection strategy for those rate payers who do not pay their dues.
“First we talk to them verbally, on the phone, then we write letters than we do write letters than we do house to house calls, we talk to them what their issues are and then failing that we get debt collectors to collect those that are collective through them and we give it to our lawyers. Those are the extreme cases that we go to but yes we have given some to our lawyers, some to debt collectors and others we are doing ourselves by going , making personal pleas to them."
Lami Town Council has one thousand two hundred and five rate payers.
