Twenty six households in the village of Waitabu on the island of Lakeba in the Lau Group has done all the necessary preparations as Cyclone Gita is forecast to affect the Southern Lau from tomorrow night.

Villager, Viliame Veretaki, says the villagers have assisted each other to secure the houses.

Veretaki says many villagers have also uprooted their root crops for emergency purposes.

The National Disaster Management Office is advising communities in the Southern Lau Group, including Ono-i-Lau, Vatoa, Fulaga, Kabara, Moce, Komo, Namuka-i-Lau, Ogea, Oneata, Lakeba, and other nearby islands, to be prepared at the highest level.
