The lack of residential lots to meet the current housing demand is a concern for the Local Government Ministry.
Minister, Parveen Kumar says this is due to the lack of investments by previous governments in this area.
Kumar says the Ministry is working closely with the Housing Authority of Fiji to address the issue.
“The reason is that in previous governments they never had that will to do or carry out sub division, if they had that stock, we would not have faced this problem. What we are doing now, we are building up on this stock and I can tell you one thing, given three to four years, we will have stock, people will have no issues in regards to the lots.”
Kumar says work on the new Nepani subdivision will be completed next month and the Housing Authority is currently processing applications regarding the lots.
The Ministry together with the Authority is also working on new subdivisions in Matavolivoli Nadi, Koroisalulsau in Tavua, Volivoli in Sigatoka, Davuilevu and Tavakubu in Lautoka.
