The lack of qualified seafarers is a major challenge faced by the shipping industry.

Goundar Shipping Director, George Goundar, says in order to provide better services they need to be licensed seafarers to man their vessels.

“The employment is the biggest challenge because the seafarers in Fiji they don’t have the knowledge at the moment for the bigger ships. The technology, the expertise, it’s challenging for me.”

Goundar says they are working hard to provide the best services to the people living in the maritime islands.

The Company yesterday received another vessel which will be providing daily services to Savusavu and twice a week to Kadavu.
