Lack of enforcement from municipalities have led to more illegal activity

November 14, 2019 7:27 am

Minister of Local Government Premila Kumar says there has been a lack of law enforcement by towns and City councils.

Kumar says the lack of law enforcement has led to more people selling illegally on footpaths and other setting up small stalls on roadsides.

After her meeting with the Lami Town Council yesterday, Kumar says they’ve identified a few areas that need to be addressed.

“All municipal council we go to it’s the same story. They have not collected their rates, garbage fees arears. There is poor enforcement of law, people are selling from the footpath, they’re selling from bus stops and they’re making little stalls wherever they feel like and there is very poor enforcement.”

Kumar says all municipalities around the country have been urged to do their work diligently.
