Labasa Sugar Mill Operational: FSC

July 25, 2018 12:48 am

The Labasa Sugar Mill is fully operational and has crushed 4418 tonnes of cane in the past 24 hours.

This was highlighted by FSC’s chief operating officer Navin Chandra when asked by FBC News about concerns raised by some farmers about the mill not being operational.

Chandra says there has been stoppages from time to time, but the mill has been operating.

“We have to be aware that there will be from time to time stoppages and while we don’t want it, that’s how the mills operate but at the end of the day, if someone is saying that the mill has not been operational, I think that is not factual. We are almost 90 percent of what our target should be in terms of production.”

Chandra says he has spoken to a few lorry drivers and lorry associations from Labasa in regards to these false claims.

He says the FSC is in constant contact with all sugar mills and will notify lorry drivers and farmers if there is a breakdown.
