Labasa Airport will be closed from August 31 to September 13 for repair and upgrade works.
The government has allocated funds for the project.
AFL General Manager Airports, Lawrence Liew says Labasa is a key airport in the north and they understand the inconvenience it will cause.
However Liew says for safety reasons maintenance to the airports is important especially the runway.
The work program includes substrate improvement, the runway overlay, drainage and the fire station extension.
Pacific Sun’s Manager Shaenaz Voss says the airline will cease flights into Labasa during the period but will increase its services to Savusavu to twice daily during that time.
