Kumar family concerned with wait for MOH officials

Selailia Kumar buried her husband Dhirendra yesterday who on Wednesday this week died from meningococcal disease.

Kumar says while the shock of losing her husband has been unbearable, her concerns are now centered on the health of her family with Health Officials yet to visit their home and vaccinate the family against the killer disease.

“On, I think on Wednesday, they informed us they will be here around in the afternoon for the all the family for vaccination so no one turns up until yesterday, we still waiting.”

Now a single parent, her focus is on the health of her only child.

 

“Like if something happened, especially me, I’m the one whose close to my husband, if something happen to me, who will gonna responsibility, who gonna look after my daughter?”

The Health Minister Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete has reassuranced that medical attention will be provided.

 

Public health officials have been on the ground, talking to family, they’ve started prevention methods, they will then make the decision whether we need to vaccinate other family members.”

Since last year, nine Fijians have now died from meningococcal disease.
