Kubuabola to champion security of troops in UN peacekeeping meet

Defence Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola is expected to champion the security of troops on the ground through partnerships and realize Fiji’s pledges to peacekeeping missions.

He will join forty-nine Ministers for Defence from around the world to attend the UN peacekeeping defense ministers meeting in Vancouver, Canada.

He says this meeting is critical, as ministers will discuss our progress with regards to pledges, and how to harness partnerships in peacekeeping.

He adds they will also consider issues like the protection of civilians and cross cutting issues of gender, policing and operating in francophone environments
Kubuabola says Fiji has a few crucial interventions to make.

He says our priority is to ensure that we have continued presence in peacekeeping with heightened efforts to the commitments we as a troop contributing country have made.

The minister will head to New York and Rome to continue peacekeeping discussions.
