Kill plot work of cowards: PM

July 19, 2012 1:05 am

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says he is not surprised by the alleged plot to assassinate him.

Yesterday – New Zealand media reported that former minister Rajesh Singh is being questioned by police and the Security Intelligence Service in Auckland for an alleged plot to assassinate Bainimarama.

He is alleged to have met with Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara in Auckland.
Bainimarama says it’s not something new.

“That is the work of cowards – and Roko Ului and Rajesh fit into that mode perfectly. Whether they can come to Fiji and carry it out is a different matter because they are cowards. They can’t come to Fiji.”

He adds – this is just a public stunt by the duo.

“I don’t know if they want international attention but i know they are trying to stop the work happening in Fiji. So it wouldn’t surprise me if there was intention to assassinate me -nothing new from that camp.”

Bainimarama says he is not moved by the threats.

“Anyone who wants to assassinate me can go right ahead and do it. They’ll have to come to Korea first because I am in Korea. They have to go through the security team in Korea and when I come home – they have to go through my security team. It doesn’t deter me.”

Homes of other Fiji nationals in Auckland were also raided by police in the investigation.
