Fiji is in its final stages of developing kidney transplant laws.
Health Minister Dr Neil Sharma says once drafted and implemented, the laws will benefit kidney patients.
Dr Sharma says currently patients have to struggle a lot to get a kidney transplant done.
When you have kidney disease, one option is to go on chronic dialysis; the other is to go on to kidney transplant. Currently patients are travelling to India with a support person and its costing them around thirty to fifty thousand dollars.
Additional operating theatres will be set up at the CWM Hospital and the Health Minister is confident kidney transplants will be undertaken in Fiji by the end of this year.
