Kerosene lamps thing of the past

Kerosene lamps and diesel powered generators will be a thing of the past for the rice farming residents in Dreketi.

People will soon have access to FEA generated power supply.

Divisional Planning Officer North Alipate Bolalevu says the project costs $14m.

“What they doing now is putting up all the power poles and getting the power lines across, building of the transformers at Wailevu and Nanibuna in Seaqaqa and another transformer in Dreketi.”

Thirty three thousand volts of energy will be channelled from Cawaira in Labasa to this remote area eighty kilometres away.

The project, is likely to be commissioned in June next year.
